Dona Bertarelli is a Swiss businesswoman. She is president of the Bertarelli Foundation. She is a sailor, having received the 2010 Bol d’Or Mirabaud and, together along with her group Spindrift Racing, the Rolex Fastnet in 2013. In the same year, she and her group broke the record. In 2020 she has become an adviser to UNCTAD.
Bertarelli was energetic in Serono, the family business, and from 1992 to 1997 was Executive Director, Public and Professional Affairs, in which she established Serono Symposia and the Serono Foundation. The business company was sold to Merck KGaA in 2007.
The 5 star Grand Hôtel Park in Gstaad was taken over through Bertarelli in 2003.
After her father died, Bertarelli and her brother founded the Bertarelli Foundation to sell the sharing and improvement of scientific, social and economic knowledge withinside the field of infertility. For 10 years, Bertarelli was Chairman of the Foundation.
Bertarelli is an ambassador of the Swiss transfusion charity Ma Ton Sang, and she is a supporter of the WHO's ‘Go Red for Women’ campaign. She is a godmother to the Womanity charity.
Bertarelli is an avid sailor and has raced with her group. Bertarelli and her group received the Bol d’Or Mirabaud in 2010. Bertarelli was the first woman to win this race.
In January 2013, Bertarelli bought a Trimaran for her Spindrift racing group.
In August 2015, Dona Bertarelli's Spindrift defended her title through taking line honours at the 46th Rolex Fastnet race. Later that year, Dona Bertarelli, with her crew, left Ushant on Spindrift 2, trying to break the record for a crewed non-stop circumnavigation. They did not break the record; Bertarelli has become the fastest lady to sail across the world.
She has become an adviser to UNCTAD in June 2020.
